The HSA has announced that as and from 1 September 2017, it will only recognise the PHECC First Aid Response Education and Training Standard (FAR) as meeting the needs of occupational first aid (OFA) in all workplaces.
Occupational First Aiders: The HSA will recognize training and assessment relating to QQI’s Level 5 OFA (5N1207) that took place up to 31 August 2017. That recognition will be for a 2 year period. Refresher certificates issued by recognised training providers up to 31 August 2017 will also be recognised by the HSA for a 2 year period.
So from 1st September onwards the QQI Occupational First Aid Course will no longer be offered. The PHECC (Pre Hospital Emergency Care Council) First Aid Responder Award will be the new qualification required for Occupational First Aid.
This course has a maximum number of attendees of 6 people. The Refresher Course for this new award is also a two day course instead of the traditional 1 day course.
There are a number of Occupational First Aid Refresher courses scheduled in before the end of August in case any of you are looking to do your refresher before the change over to the new course.
Let me know if you have any queries.
